Engineering & Road Maintenance

The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance of parish roads, right of ways and bridges. This work includes related surface maintenance, drainage, vegetation control, bridges and traffic signs.

The Public Works Department maintains 1,038 miles of roads – 287.8 miles of gravel roads – 728.5 miles of asphalt roads – 21.7 miles of concrete roads.

Seasonal Employment

Rapides Parish Public Works accepts applications for seasonal employment beginning in March of each year. The employment period begins in April and ends in October. Applicants must be prompt and dependable. Must have a valid driver’s license and must be able to operate a tractor.
