Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

On August 7, 1998, President Bill Clinton signed the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998, which is a comprehensive reform legislation that supersedes the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) and amends the Wagner-Peyser Act.  What does that mean to you?  It means that WIA is pulling together all the pieces of the puzzle to offer its customers, employers and jobseekers, everything they need – all in one location!  The Rapides Parish Police Jury is the grant recipient for the WIA Title I Adult & Dislocated Worker Program and Youth Program, which means all funds for these programs are funneled through the Police Jury.

Across the state of Louisiana, there are 18 Workforce Investment Boards (WIB) that are responsible for program oversight for the grant recipients. The mission of the Rapides Parish Workforce Investment Board is to facilitate employment, education, and training of the workforce to meet the needs of the business community.
