Steve Coco represents District G on the Rapides Parish Police Jury.
He is a former broadcast journalist now specializing in Advertising and Public Relations.
He’s also CEO of www.cenlanews.com. His broadcasting career includes CBS Radio in Philadelphia,
PA, extensive investigative consumer reporting and political coverage of local and state government
in 5 states.
Mr. Coco was born in New Orleans and until the age of 10 lived in the Iberville Housing project
two blocks off Canal Street next to the historic St. Louis Cemetery. He attended primary education
in New Orleans and Franklin Parish before majoring in Speech/Communications at the former Northeast
Louisiana State College.
He’s been recognized three times by the Louisiana State Medical Society for meritorious medical
reporting. He has been a host of the Cabrini Foundation’s Children’s Miracle Network since 1988.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for the American Forces Radio and Television Service in Europe,
spending duty time in Turkey, Greece and Germany. He completed his military career at the former
England Air Force Base.
He’s an active fundraiser for local Churches/Schools, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the I-Wish
foundation for Troop E State Police, Alzheimer’s Association, Boys and Girls Club, the Heart
Association, March of Dimes, Multiple Sclerosis, American Cancer Society, Council on Aging,
Rapides Senior Citizens Center and the United Way.
He is President of the Advisory Council of the Rapides Senior Volunteer Program and the Windermere
Place Homeowners Association. He is also a Board member of the Public Relations Association of Central
Louisiana.
Mr. Coco’s youngest son, Jonathan, resides in Rapides Parish. His oldest son, Benjamin, died in
a tragic hunting/boating accident in 1999. That accident also claimed the life of Bart Wilmore,
son of former Police Jury Don Wilmore.
Mr. Coco is Chairman of the Grants, Public Health and Tourism Committee and serves on the
Courthouse, Economic Planning and Development Committee, the Insurance, Ambulance and Policy
Committee; the Workforce Development, Personnel, Fire and Homeland Security Committee; the Finance
Committee; the Public Works, Watershed and Agricultural Affairs Committee; the Municipal Liaison,
Legal and Elections Committee; and the Parochial Board Liaison Committee of the Rapides Parish
Police Jury.
